Guild of Volunteers gives gifts of time, money to enhance patient services

Franciscan St. Anthony Health – Michigan City Guild of Volunteers officers presented a $90,000 check to the hospital, derived from fund-raising events they conducted the previous year, during a 2013 annual awards luncheon April 9 at Pottawattomie Country Club.

Dr. James Callaghan, far right, hospital president, in turn lauded the guild’s efforts, pointing out that funds donated at last year’s event were used for the purchase of vein-viewing equipment, children’s car seats, language interpretation equipment and for nursing education. “We are thankful for this, and for all you do on behalf of the hospital and its patients every day,” he said.

Guild members also received pins for hours of service compiled during their tenure, which ranged from 100, to 23,000 — the number logged by Lillian Wagner. Total volunteer hours for 2012 were 24,348. Guild officers shown with Callaghan include, from left: Angie Kmiecik, secretary; Sheila Ito, treasurer; Caryn Glossinger, vice president; Donald Klein, president; Margene Bohlim, gift shop treasurer; and Kathleen Nicholson, corresponding secretary.
